Brown recluse look alikes

Brown recluse spiders are most commonly found in the Midwest above the Gulf of Mexico. There are several brown recluse look -alike spiders. Because of the potential danger of the bites of these spiders, it is important to know what spiders are mistaken for the brown recluse. The brown recluse spider (Loxosceles reclusa) is arguably the most feared and most misunderstood spider species in North America. So, here we will find out how to tell if a spider is not a brown recluse.


But before we do, it’s important to note that even if you do find a brown recluse, it’s not that big a deal.

Arachnologist Rick Vetter is an expert on the brown recluse spider who has. I caught this guy in my home. It looked very much like a brown recluse with the fiddle on back, no other markings, flattened thorax, and recluse -like body proportions. Two characteristics that help distinguish this spider from similar species include the dark violin-shaped marking on the back of the front portion of the body, and the semicircular, paired arrangement of six eyes. The best and true way to identify a brown recluse from their look alikes is by looking at the arrangement and number of eyes. Recluse spiders have six eyes, arranged in three pairs in a semi circle. However, I do not believe this is a brown recluse. The size of the body, size of the palps and general body shape is not quite that of a brown recluse.


Are there any spiders that look like a brown recluse spider? I have been seeing alot of this one kind of spider lately and I looked up a brown recluse and it looks stunningly similar and its freaking me out because I am deathly afraid of spiders. I dont know what other kinds of spiders there are so if you could please tell me if there are spiders similiar in looks to a brown recluse I would.
